Gamer's Tips

Tools

Here is a list of all the 21st century tools that our class has used for class work this year. We mostly used them for bloging.

In the future I will need to know how to use most of these 21st century tools. I think some of the more important ones are Diigo a social bookmarking site. Delicious, is the same as Diigo. Wikipedia, is a site which is usefull for getting information. facebook is social networking site for personal use. Websiration, is a site to organize information on different topics and Google, is the best search engine. I’m glad that I got to use these tools in class now. I will have more experience with them for high school.

This is a list of the top 5 blogs that you should visit. There are 3 student and 2 class blogs on this list. All the blogs on this list are different in some sort of way. They might not be favourites to some people but these 5 blogs are some of the best blogs that I have visited.

  1. The Ripple Effect:is the best class blog ever, but, I’m a littled biased on this one because I am one of the Ripplers. Check out some of the best student blogs and school related fun posts here as well.
  2. The Game Reviews: Here you can find great game reviews on games like Jak, Zelda and more. You can also get in the know about some other events like Halloween and Christmas.
  3. Penalty Box: Find the latest news on hockey at my friends blog, The Penalty Box. Also find game reviews on best sports games like NHL 2010 and more.
  4. Greyson’s History Page: is the spot with posts on pretty much any subject. It’s mainly based on Grayson’s thoughts about school blogging and things like that.
  5. Huzzah: Ms. Smith’s blog on school topics and activities. This blog also has good student blogs. It also has some fun posts about random topics.

Licenced

bobgoogMy blog now has a Creative Commons licence. It is licenced under Attribution-No Derivative conditions. That means you are allowed to use the work personally and commercially, but not allowed to make changes to any of my blog posts. If you copy anything from my blog and put it somewhere else you will have to credit me and link back to my blog. If you want to get a  Creative Commons licence for your blog click the link. When you take a picture from the Internet it needs to have a creative commons licence unless you are reviewing something and then it counts as fair use. The best way to get a creative commons image is to go to a site named flickr and there you can find images about mostly anything. Flickr images come with there own licence licence and must be used under certain conditions.

Awakened

LInkThe Legend of Zelda - Links awakaning is one of the only Zelda games that takes place outside of Hyrule. There are 2 different versions of this game. Unlike all other Zelda game remakes the second game has a quite a different story. I will be reviewing both versions of the game: The Legend of Zelda : Link’s Awakening DX and the Original.

Details:

Original: Links awakaning begins when Link’s ship crashes while caught in a terrible storm. When Link wakes up he is on an island away from Hyrule. He loses his memory and can only remember one thing - his name. Then he is found on the island beach by a girl whose name I forgot since I have not played this game for awhile. The girl tells him that the only way to get his memory back is to awaken the Wind Fish. To awaken the Wind Fish Link has to find the 6 instruments that will summon it. After you get through the talking part you get a sword and a shield and head out on your adventure. Link can also collect items which brings the new collecting part to the game. Even though this game is black and white and you can’t make out some objects it’s a very good Zelda game. It is the first Nintendo game that lets you trade items and actually interact with other people .

DX:It begins almost the same way except in this game you have coulor. When you crash you do not lose your memory you are just unconscious. When you are found by the girl you get taken to her house where you awake. When you leave her house you only get a shield. Again you have to find your sword in this game and you can use your shield normally two. In this game you still have to awaken the Wind Fish but instead of just six instruments you have to get eight. So that means more dungeons, more fun and more Zelda. It’s the same for the collection items. You now have variety of items that you can collect. Some of the new items are the Ribbon the Yoshi doll and the Bee Hive and these items can be traded in link play. This game being more advanced then the original allows you to battle your friends. That is if you and your friends have the game and at least one link cable.

Compared: Link’s awakaning DX is OK but with it being a Game Boy version it can’t offer the same options as the remake. In the original version, even though you can collect items you collect them for the good of the game instead of just for fun like in the DX version. You also don’t get the couler feature witch doesn’t allow you to tell some of the items apart. The game’s graphics also aren’t as good so you again can’t tell some things apart. The DX version also lets you have a battle mode and you can play and trade items with your friends. You can also collect more items  than in the oiginal. But I do have to give the original a thumbs up for just being the classic game.

Over All:

Original: If you want to play the classic Links awakaning then this is the game for you. But again this game is really good for the Game Boy and was the best Zelda game in its time. It just isn’t the best of the two.

DX:  The remake gets my vote for better graphics, a bit of a better story line and of course coulor and a longer time line. I think that this game’s main advantage over the previous Zelda games is the battle mode, the co-operative story mode and the graphics. Out of the two, this game takes the cake.

Rating:

Since The DX version took first place on the podium I will be rating it.

WARThis week my class is talking to Mr.Webb’s class in New Zealand througha program called Skype. Our class has been learning how to do a Maori Mihi. A Mihi is a  traditional Maori greeting. Our class has thought of some questons for them. We put the questons in a wiki to make sure that no one had the same ones. When that was done we started recording the Maori Mihi on a program called Vocaroo. To hear me speek Maori click play on the little green bar below.

    Lights Out

earthhourIn 2007, 2.2 million people in Sydney, Australia turned out their lights for Earth Hour as a symbol to help stop global warming. In 2008, the idea was globally named as Earth Hour and 50 million people switched off their lights in over 400 cities around the world. Then in 2009 Earth Hour united the planet when over 4000 cities and towns with hundreds of millions of people around the world turned out their lights to help stop global warming. Earth Hour started as a small thing but now it is one of the largest celebrated events in the world.

This year on March 27 my family and I turned out our lights for Earth Hour. During that hour I didn’t do that much. I played my DS in my room that’s all. My DS is an electronic device that is not a necessity, but I figure technically that doesn’t count because a DS is wireless. Did you turn out the lights for Earth Hour? If you did what did you do in that time?

    The World Of The Past

    zelda3_logo

A Link to the Past is a fairly long Zelda game. It is also the most repetitive Zelda game. It takes place in the past and present of Hyrule (the kingdom that Link and Zelda come from). This game is the prequel to Link’s awakening even though it is a lot more like Ocarina Of Time. The difference is that in Ocarina Of Time you have to save the kingdom by travelling to the future and present.

This game has some particular qualities. It is the first Zelda game in which you are able to travel in time. You also have to really use your shield instead of just holding it to deflect attacks. Since you can finally use your shield properly you can also deflect attacks a bit better. You can also get back the magic that you use so if you run out you can get a refill. That is if you can find a green potion somewhere. Unlike the Zelda games before this you do not start off with a sword. So if you like to start off with a weapon and just skip to the fighting, too bad, you are not going to get that here. If you want the full Zelda experience this game is OK.

    2 half stars

I rate this game 2 1/2 stars for:

    • OK story line
    • OK graphics
    • OK adventure

    Rated: E for everyone

Have you ever played Zelda - Link to the Past?
